Spotify Playlist Covers

Ever since I started using Spotify in 2017, I found Spotify’s official playlist covers very simple yet eye-catching. With them as inspiration, I created covers for my playlists using Adobe Photoshop. Designing my covers was my creative outlet throughout high school.

Below is an example of how my design has changed over the years. The names of my playlists may have changed over time.

As you can see, the 2017 playlist cover’s text is illegible due to the distracting picture behind it. Young Sarah had too much fun over-saturating the pictures. Over time, I started choosing simpler pictures for the background. The 2020 cover has one main colour, purple, which makes it less chaotic to look at. The picture has a bit of space on the left for the text to fit so that the two elements don’t clash like the old cover. I also realized that increasing the contrast and decreasing the brightness of the picture results in better readability of the white text over any picture.
